I grew up down at the crossroads where the Turnpike, Parkway, 1, 9 and 287 all flowed together … in the shadow of the Outerbridge Crossing where the great oil refineries of north-central Jersey sent up a steady stream of black smoke and the dreams of Ellis Island were alive and swirling.
I wrote songs about truck yards and thought about highways and played from Asbury to NYC:
TBirds, Stone Pony,
Brighton Bar, Downtown Cafe,
South Amboy, New Brunswick
Montclair, Cricket Club (Irvington),
North Haledon, Jersey City,
NYC Sidewalk Cafe, Rodeo Bar
a couple of places in the Village.
One winter I drove down to Nashville,
and rented a room in an extended stay off I-65
and stayed for 12 years.
While in "Music City" I played
3rd and Lindsley, 12th and Porter,
The Ace Of Clubs, Guidos, The Broken Spoke,
The Sutler, Douglas Corner, The Bluebird,
The Gold Rush, The Boardwalk, and my favorite,
Windows on the Cumberland.
Now, I live, on the mid-Atlantic coast -
where the sun rises at one end of the street
and sets down the other -
gigging for a living, writing, performing, and recording music, chasing hummingbirds, studying obscurity,
getting mesmerized by human nature
every step of the way...
